Modern construction techniques

At Pod Space we take great pride in our products and are at the forefront of design development, utilising the latest components and modern construction techniques. We feel that the components that can’t be seen are as important as those that are – we don’t cut corners on the quality or finish of the studio at any stage in the construction process.

At the core of every pod is a highly insulated structural timber and steel frame, which, along with the premium grade Western Red Cedar, vented cavities and latest waterproof membranes from Dupont will insure your pod is around for many decades to come.

Foundations

A high quality precast concrete adjustable foundation system has minimal impact in your garden meaning no messy wet mix concrete, is eco friendly, and for your piece of mind complies fully with current building regulations (LABC approved).

External Walls

A 220mm thick composite wall construction insulated to modern house standards, incorporating vented cavities and high performance waterproof membranes to eliminate cold bridging. Externally clad with sustainable and highly durable western red cedar from well-managed Canadian forests. They weather to a silver grey colour and will typically last maintenance free for up to 40 years. To compliment the cedar, our pods come with contemporary grey cladding panels which are colour matched to the windows and doors. For durability all the fixings are stainless steel.

Floor

The floor construction is highly insulated and incorporates the latest waterproof membranes and vapour barriers ensuring your protection from the British Weather making it in most instances, more energy efficient than a traditional home. An Eco friendly real wood flooring comes as standard (various options). Alternatively, we offer a range of quality engineered real wood floorings that are hard wearing and are virtually maintenance free.

Doors and Windows

Premium Scandinavian windows and doors are fitted as standard. All pods are installed with high efficiency sealed double glazing units and for your peace of mind are ‘Secured By Design’ accredited. The optional folding sliding doors feature a high performance, thermally broken slimline frame and are powder coated to the same colour as the windows.

Green Roof (Optional)

Green roof systems are becoming ever more popular having a number of positive effects on the environment. They are eco-friendly, improve air quality, visually attractive, lightweight, cost effective and provide a home for wildlife. The green roofs we specify are constructed using low maintenance planting, such as sedums (succulents) and indigenous herbs and grasses, which provide excellent cover and are well suited to cope with British weather conditions. Opting for an eco roof also gives increased protection to the waterproofing system, provides additional thermal and acoustic insulation and helps to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

Internal Finishes

Flush mounted quality brushed stainless steel 13A double sockets, light switches, telephone and data points with energy efficient spotlights are all fitted as standard. Moisture resistant spotlights are provided to the external roof overhang. Walls and ceilings are finished with a traditional plaster and paint finish as standard. Alternatively we offer contemporary premium-grade White Birch panels with factory sealed satin lacquer coating if preferred.

Heating

Energy efficient contemporary slimline flat panel wall heaters come with a fully programmable digital thermostat. Optional low energy under-floor heating is also available.

Solar Shading

Contemporary Cedar louvers and recessed external doors provide solar shading and give all year round protection from the British weather.

Decking

Constructed using durable western red cedar or Siberian Larch to compliment the external cladding. The size of your decked area may be increased to amplify the sense of space within your pod.

Frameless Rooflights (Optional)

Fitted with energy efficient self cleaning glass these low maintenance rooflights look great and help reduce the requirement for artificial lighting.
