Summer Dreaming

The winter winds are barely done and in many U.K spots there’s still snow on the ground. Thinking about the heat of the summer sun, still? We’ve spent a cosy winter in our eco homes, warmed by low energy underfloor heating and with the frosts well and truly banished by our garden studios – Scandinavian double-glazing. But the sun is certainly on its way, so here are a few reasons we’ve come up with here in the office to help make the most of summer 2012 in the U.K!

Our Pods
We don’t like our blog to be too marketing-led, but we really do have exceptional faith in our pods as fantastic summer houses and all-weather garden buildings. Huge windows and open design make them as great for a little summer shade as they are for hiding from winter chills. The U.K weather can be annoyingly fickle, so do what we’ve done and make sure there’s a versatile, cosy space in your garden.

Gardening
Here at Pod HQ we’re a real mix of green fingers and all-fingers-and-thumbs in the garden! February isn’t the warmest month to be getting down to some heavy labour in the garden, but it can be a great time to prepare the soil and plan your summer borders (even if that just means heading to the garden centre for lots of mini-conifers!)

Planning
We’re born planners. A little planning can go a long way, so think about how to get the most from your garden area by spacial planning, tidying and planting.

Compact Spaces and Our Pods

It may not seem like the most sensible use of space to fill a small yard or garden with one of our garden rooms, but read on and we’ll fill you in on a few industry tricks and expert tips on the subject of maximising the usefulness of your small outdoor space.

The Problem of the Small Space
Small spaces are typically a bit tough to manage in terms of usefulness. For the compact garden, do you fill it with foliage? Add a pagoda for drama? Ignore it and chuck garden junk in it? A small garden probably means a reasonably small house, or at least a house that could do with a little extra indoor space.

A Home Not Too Far Away from Home

A little home away from home may seem like the kind of place you’d buy in the Lake District or a quaint Welsh village, but more folks than ever are investing in garden buildings as their sanctuary and extra bit of space.

With the housing market still stagnating away in the U.K economy, clever homeowners are looking to make the most of the space they already own. We speak to lots of clients from the entire property spectrum, and one thing they all have in common is a desire to utilise space efficiently. After all, who needs a huge garden partnered with a property that’s too small!

The Perfect Reading Nook
Lots of our garden rooms are installed to meet tailored needs. Things like pet rooms, play rooms and music rooms etc are the most common vague reasons for installing. But there’s one sector you won’t find vague – the avid readers. The perfect reading nook is a sacred space to literature fans. Ask any of our happy clients about how much they love their reading home away from home and you’ll likely be greeted with a series of peaceful grins and swoons!

The Guest Room
Eco homes like the Eco Pod make the perfect guest space. We don’t always have a nice spare room to put up the in-laws or the entire family of a visiting friend. Creating a nurturing and safe home for our pets is important to all animal lovers. Here in the Pod Space studio we’re split 50/50 as dog-lovers and cat-fanatics! It’s not just garden offices and studios we create. Our garden buildings can be put to any use you please, and more recently we discovered a lovely trend for building pet havens in the garden using similar products to the Pod Space range.

Eco homes are about more than just solar panels and recycling. They’re about using your knowledge to foster a lifestyle that limits the impact of you, your pets and those around on the earth, thereby safeguarding it for future generations.

So, what are the benefits of building a garden room just for Fido or Kitty? According to the RSPCA, most pets thrive with a little of their own space. Cats are lone rangers, and although they’d follow you into war, dogs sometimes need a little alone time too!

Using our pods to build a tailored pet paradise means your companion will always have a warm, private area to call their own. We find this can be most beneficial to pets in very busy homes.

Cats, for example, can be very grumpy around strangers. For the self-employed person working from home, a cat garden room can remove the trepidation Kitty associates with the crowded house. Safety is another key issue. For folks with clients or visitors coming and going, keeping tabs on pets can fall off the radar.
