We also design in efficiency with attention to orientation of glazing and canopy or screen details for solar shading.

We can tailor the design of your building to the needs of your business. If you’re looking for small private areas where your colleagues can collaborate on projects we can install multiple spaces. Exeter University Meeting Room Pods

Exeter University approached Pod Space with a very specific design brief: create a light, bright and welcoming space that would form a hub for their students and staff. The space requirements included a café service and eating area, open plan seating/study space and two separate meeting rooms. Also required was a link connecting the new building to the main university building.

With limited space available on the site, the greatest challenge of the project was to construct a bespoke modular building to fit within an unused courtyard space. Furthermore the courtyard was set up on a hillside and enclosed by four storey buildings on all sides.

The logistics of the project required careful planning to allow for the continued smooth running of the university. The modules were designed to be craned in for site connection so the project had all of the benefits of an off-site construction. To really minimize the impact of site activity the crane lift took place on a weekend and before the start of the academic year.

For the finished scheme, we addressed the issue of available light in the courtyard by designing in rooflights across the space. To boost productivity and energy levels, the building’s many windows were purposefully positioned at desk height to channel natural light directly into study areas.

On the exterior, the cladding was chosen to provide an industrial feel for the building and with striking grey glazed aluminium windows and doors. The university supplied the vision for the interior, to provide a modern industrial feel with exposed vents and pipework so the mechanical and electrical design was critical from both a functional and aesthetic perspective.

Pod Space provided a fully completed project with all interior finishes in place and ready for the interior designers to add in their final touches. Floor finishes were chosen for both their durability and finished aesthetic.
