Not all buildings are created equal.

Pod Space is different. Whether you are searching for the best garden room for your home or leading supplier for your commercial scheme we go beyond the standard specification. Every building we create is architecturally designed and specified to the same high standards as a permanent structure, not a temporary summerhouse.

Our team of experienced garden room designers has decades of experience working on high end residential and commercial projects. That expertise ensures that every detail is perfected, from the structure you don’t see to the finishes you’ll admire every day.

What to look for when choosing a supplier?

There are some critical questions to ask before committing, to make sure you’re investing in a quality garden room or commercial space that will stand the test of time.

Is it built with premium materials?

Look for construction that meets or exceeds building regulations, designed to TRADA guidance and is suitable for heavy, year-round use. Does the building include steel or  structural beams or is it a less durable timber frame or complete SIPS build? Are there structural calculations in place for the design? Checking these key details offers reassurance that you have a quality garden room, meeting or teaching space, built to last a lifetime.

What’s inside the walls, floor and roof?

Don’t just ask about the best insulated garden room, check the type and level of insulation included. Also look for waterproof and vapour control layers as well as structural components such as steel or structural beams for comfort, safety and efficiency in all seasons. Correctly ventilated cavities should also be a feature and insect mesh is important for keeping the structure protected long-term.

How is it built and installed?

The best garden room designers and installers will engineer your building in advance with each component accurately drawn up by a qualified technician and constructed in a factory controlled environment. For a commercial or public sector scheme this is likely to be a precision manufactured modular unit, craned into position. The best garden rooms will be delivered as fabricated panels for accurate assembly. This ensures far greater precision than site-built methods, and has the advantage of a speedier, less disruptive installation.

Who designed the building?

Was it created by a qualified architectural designer, or improvised by a tradesperson? Architectural design expertise ensures balance and proportion to a building, good levels of natural light, accessibility as well as the critical compliance with relevant standards. At Pod Space, every Pod is carefully detailed by our award-winning design team before going in to production.

Will it add long term value?

A quality garden building, meeting room or classroom space, designed to professional standards won’t just meet today’s needs—it will remain an asset for decades. By contrast, poorly built structures quickly deteriorate, reducing both usability and property value. Investing in a structure for the long term will add value.

Is the warranty truly dependable?

Extended warranties may sound reassuring, but often come with exclusions and caveats. Always check the small print and ask what is truly covered. At Pod Space, our commitment to quality means you can depend on the longevity of your building without hidden surprises.

How We Compare

Pod Space vs a typical supplier

Architectural Expertise

Pod Space

Every Pod designed by an international award-winning architectural team, highly experienced in both residential and commercial design.

Typical Competitor

Generic designs from tradespeople with no formal design training and constructed from loose components.

Why it matters:

Detailed design of every component seamlessly working together. Great design integrates seamlessly with your garden, landscape or outdoor space.

Note:

The final specification of each building will vary dependant upon size, purpose, design and location.

Building Regulations

Pod Space

Compliant with UK Building Regulations including Part L (thermal) and Part A (structure). Certification available if required.

Typical Competitor

More like a shed or summerhouse which may not be recognised construction techniques and non-compliant with Building Regulations or TRADA.

Why it matters:

Habitable standards, long-term value, and future-proof peace of mind.

Foundations

Pod Space

Typically designed as below ground steel reinforced concrete base or engineered pads/piles, complete with drainage and a galvanised steel subframe with air gap. Detailed setting out drawings supplied for accurate installation. We provide precise setting out drawings for accurate installation.

Typical Competitor

Concrete blocks, over-ground timber frames, or piles without sufficient air gap or drainage. Risk of water ingress from below the building.

Why it matters:

A robust and level base, clear of surrounding ground ensures precision placement and longevity. Avoids risk of damp and vermin or insect infestations.
Because every site is different, there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution. We recommend that groundworks are carried out by an experienced builder or groundworker, not just a fitting crew. Over the years we have successfully collaborated with hundreds of client-appointed contractors, supplying them with detailed setting-out drawings and working closely to ensure a flawless build.

Floor Construction

Pod Space

Fully insulated floor, built to UK building regulations standards with moisture resistant, fire rated panels. Built with 150mm clear air space to comply with building regulations.

Typical Competitor

A thin timber base on blocks or posts with minimal insulation and often in close contact with the ground. Non-compliant use of SIPS panels prone to delamination or incorrect joist sizes or joist spacing.

Why it matters:

Solid, draft-free, all-season performance with no cold spots.

Wall Construction

Pod Space

Multi-layered composite structure with manufactured panels, high-level insulation, waterproof membrane and insect mesh.

Typical Competitor

Single-skin timber frames or basic SIP panels with low level insulation. No crossed battens to provide a ventilated cavity.

Why it matters:

Correct ventilation prevents damp permeating the structure to improve longevity and avoid damage. Superior warmth, energy efficiency, and acoustic performance—making it feel like an extension of your home or workspace.

Roof Construction

Pod Space

Warm roof design with full insulation, bonded and taped edges with an industry leading single ply roof membrane. Engineered fall for rainwater run-off and collection. Contemporary standing seam roof on a bespoke pitched roof design.

Typical Competitor

Metal, felt or low-grade rubber, often without fall. Cold roof construction is also common.

Why it matters:

Decades of weather protection without leaks, drafts, or heat loss and high levels of sound insulation.

Windows and Doors

Pod Space

Commercial-grade aluminium frames, multi-point locking, and double glazing. Wide format glazing with slim interlock for better sightlines.

Typical Competitor

uPVC or softwood frames or wide profile aluminium. Basic double glazing.

Why it matters:

Durability, superior security, acoustic performance, aesthetics, and maintenance-free longevity.

Aluminium Components

Pod Space

Custom-designed, precision-engineered aluminium, matt textured powder-coated for durability.

Typical Competitor

Timber or plastic trims, prone to rot and warping or plastic coated metal.

Why it matters:

Refined aesthetic finish and far greater durability and security.
