When a successful North London novelist dreamed of replacing a disused shed at the bottom of the garden with a peaceful, creative space to make the perfect writer’s retreat, he rang Pod Space.
As you’d expect from a writer, the brief called for both space and light. So, we set about producing a bright, illuminated room that showcased the impressive views looking back towards our client’s home. However, the main challenge was to design a large enough space accommodating a sizeable writing desk and storage areas without impacting on the rest of the garden space.
On our first site visit we planned together with our client, how the Pod would be positioned in place of the existing storage shed and surrounding decking area. This gave us the maximum dimensions for the new Pod building, but although our client preferred the style of the Mini Pod the dimensions appeared unsuitable for this space. Time for our talented ‘can do’ design team to get involved…
Pod Space quickly created a bespoke Pod that combined the style features of the Mini Pod with an elongated front elevation including an additional timber panel.
Creating your own dream writing space in your garden could not be easier. Working closely with our client we mapped out moving and replanting trees and how best to build the foundations for the bespoke Pod.
The Pod’s windows, large glazed doors and a louvered screen were planned and positioned around our client’s vision for a sunlit, spacious writing room that made the most of stunning garden views.
The successful end result is an attractive garden building that enhances the space at the end of the garden without dominating it. Cedar cladding blends beautifully with surrounding planting and once inside, the Pod delivers a creative and peaceful sanctuary, independent enough to relieve writer’s block but close enough to remain part of family life.
